When working with terminal strips AutoCAD Electrical offers a few different ways to display the information on our drawings. Of course we have the ability to display the terminal strip graphically and also with two types of charts. The video created for this post will show how to work within the terminal strip editor to create and place the charts onto our drawings.

Not a user of the electrical product on a daily basis, I find myself when working in a project opening up the wrong files often. This could be do to poor naming procedures, but I normally rename my files towards the end of a project. Thank you Autodesk for having the Quick View Drawings functionality, what a time saver. Lets take a look.

When it comes to designs and documentation electrical designs commonly have huge bill of materials not to mention the shear number of drawings associated to them. The electrical product has some great tools built in to help ensure every item has been ordered and contains manufacturer information. We basically have two options, one to run a missing bill of material report or we have a quicker option that allows us to visually check an active drawing for such critical information as well. Lets take a look at each.
Today's post I take a look at building some simple templates for use in our electrical designs. The templates in use today are for common ladders we may have in our designs plus some tips and tricks that come along with it. Please enjoy.
The easiest way to move from reference to reference inside of electrical is taking advantage of the surfer command. This command has a lot more potential than you may use it for. Take a look at the video I put together of how surfer can be used.
If you are a user of AutoCAD Electrical I am sure you are well aware of installation and location codes. If not a brief example is the ability to apply extra information to a schematic component to be used as a filter when generating reports, this is the most common example.

Today I am looking two ways to copy our AutoCAD Electrical projects. The first way that I show in the video is using AutoCAD Electrical. Of course this is nice for everyone who has a seat of software loaded on their work station. The second way of copying a project is utilizing Autodesk Vault. This may not require a seat of Electrical software installed on a work station depending on the type of Autodesk Data Management a company maybe running. This is perfect for managers and other people in a company who don't need Electrical loaded.
If you are a new user to the Autodesk products or even someone who has used them for some time being able to save your favorite help system searching can be a real time saver. For new users its a great way to quickly access those new commands you are learning about. For us who are longtime users we may use it for those commands that we only use once in a great while and need that little bit of information to ensure we are using it correctly. Lets take a look at this very simple feature that can save us time in using our help system.

After I started using AutoCAD Electrical for a few months I came up with the simplest question. How do I find information in my project?ACADE has 'Find and Replace' commands. I can use the surfer on the symbols if I know where they are but if you check the command line then you'll see that the surfer is your search tool!Type it to Surf it!

Building from last weeks post, this week I take a quick look at adding external terminal jumpers into your design. This process is exteremly easy when working with AutoCAD Electrical.
I use the Edit Jumper tool to jumper two or more terminals together in a schematic diagram. The terminals to be jumpered can be on the same drawing or span multiple drawings within the same project.

Today we take a look at adding multiple terminals into our schematics. We will use the multiple insert command that allows us to take advantage of fencing to have all components added to the areas that we ran our fencing across as you will see in the video.
Remember the terminal symbols on the schematic are a representation of wire connection points. The terminal symbol representation on the schematic can have associations with the physical terminal block on the panel drawing.
There are four types of terminal behavior that you can select from and five main terminal styles (square, round, hexagon, diamond, and triangle). Each type of terminal behavior is controlled by the terminal block name.

Today I will be taking a look at working with DIN RAIL. The process is very similar to adding any component to a design with a few small differences in how they are placed and represented/viewed in your design.
The Din Rail is generated based on data held in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet called WDDINRL.XLS. Each row in the main worksheet, DIN_RAIL, represents a rail type. The Manufacturer, Catalog, and Description fields are used to create the drop-down list on the dialog box.
