Today's post I take a look at building some simple templates for use in our electrical designs. The templates in use today are for common ladders we may have in our designs plus some tips and tricks that come along with it. Please enjoy.
Speaking with a customer recently I found that everytime they would create a parts list for a single detail they would go through the steps of adding a parts list then add column information an so on. Well this adds up in time especialy when you do a couple hundred details. Lets take a look at changing this process for them. In there case they want to show a detail number, material and overall domensions for there parts list. I will use a template file for getting my overall dimension easily and add some information to my template title block. Lets take a look.

Templates are not just used for setting drawing and part standards. I have found a great use working with commonly used parts in a design, in this case I never know the actual length of my given part and it may change throughout my design creation. My video shows the creation of this part template and working with it inside my design. In this case I could have taken advantage of frame generator but at times that functionality does have limitations. Remember any part you choose to use as a template must be saved in a template folder.

After visiting a customer and taking questions about templates and creating custom iproperties, I showed how to make those custom iprops available for your template .idw or dwg. I have put together a short video showing how to map your drawing template file to your model template file which would contain custom iproperties.
